Speaker
Dr Mike Esbester Senior Lecturer in History at the University of Portsmouth, and one of the co-leads of the ‘Railway Work, Life & Death’ project. There’s more on the
RWLD website.
In this talk I’ll introduce railway staff accidents and the dangers of railway work before the Second World War.
I’ll discuss the ‘Railway Work, Life & Death’ project, which is documenting employee accidents in Britain and Ireland before 1939, and the various resources it offers
for railway historians. I’ll pay particular attention to south Wales, focusing on a forthcoming update to the RWLD database which will add around 55,000 Welsh cases into
the project’s resources.
