By Bus:
From the Newport Direction:
There are two separate bus services between Newport and Rhiwderin. Details as at
May 2022 are as follows but please note these can change.
Stagecoach Service 50/50A Newport Caerphilly
This is basically the same service but the two variants leave Newport by different routes with only the 50 stopping outside the railway station. The best course is to
walk to the northern stand of the bus station and catch either there, This is a five to ten minute walk away. To get there, exit left from the station main concourse,
cross the dual carriageway and continue in same direction. Turn into Cambrian Street which the first right and look for the City Arcade on the left side just below
Witherspoon's pub on the right. Walk straight through City Arcade, cross the road and continue straight through the refurbished market hall. Exit on the eastern i.e.
Dock Street side with the 50/50A stand being directly across the road opposite that exit. The 50/50A provide two services per hour during normal working/opening hours
Monday to Saturday. Get off at the Rhiwderin Inn, cross the road and the level crossing, the community centre is on the left behind the stone wall. On return the 50
stops outside the station, whilst the 50A now avoids the city centre and will drop you at the terminus. Walk back to the station in reverse as per the above.
Newport Buses Service 37
Service 37 to and from Rhiwderin uses the other southern half of the bus station with the two parts being detached from each other and one or two minutes walk apart.
Look out for the modern shopping centre with the former Debenhams logos still visible. The bus stands are on the eastern side facing Dock Street and the river. This
service terminates in Rhiwderin and will drop you literally right outside the community centre. It runs approximately hourly on weekdays. This service does not pass
Newport Railway Station and avoids the town centre on return. The walk back to the railway station via the main street and bottom of Cambrian Street (look for the NAT
WEST branch, turn left and immediate, first right takes about eight to ten minutes).
From The Caerphilly Direction:
Stagecoach Service 50 (Bargoed to Newport via Caerphilly t) provides a frequent service up to late afternoon/early evening from Caerphilly along the A468 through Machen.
Get off at the Rhiwderin Inn, walk back on the same side of the road and turn right by the Rhiwderin Inn. Go under the railway overbridge and the Rhiwderin Community Centre
is on the immediate left. This service is supplemented by Service 50A (Caerphilly to Newport) on the same route.
Note|: Tickets between the 50/50A and 37 service are not interchangeable.
