Membership

The Welsh Railways Research Circle welcomes anyone with an interest in railways of Wales and the Marches and has much to offer whether you’re a railway modeller, historian, researcher or rail enthusiast. We facilitate and assist not only members who wish to gain knowledge of Welsh Railways, but also those that wish to undertake their own research.

WRRC is continuing to develop its research centre and to wish to digitise as much as possible so as to provide facilities for research purposes online as well as the centre. The Circle’s research centre has six main areas:
1. The Library – Housing several hundred books and journals on Welsh railways and industries,
2. The Rhiwderin Archive - Original documents – from agreements and contracts to Working Time Tables (WTT).
3. Drawings and Maps -
4. Members' Studies – the fruits of research undertaken by members
5. Information Resources – Information garnered from various sources some of which has been digitised
6. Photographic Collection – Collections of original and published photographs
Each of these areas are being expanded by our volunteer members, but help (including online) would allow us to provide more online resources. More

Online Discussion Forum
Lively on-line discussion board where members can discuss a wide range of matters pertaining to the history, modelling and research into Welsh Railways

Meetings In-person & Online:
- Events Talks and Presentations – Guest and member talks and presentations Some hybrid or online so that distant and overseas members may partake. Events Calendar
- Research Forum (Online quarterly meeting) – Members chat about their research work, and others may seek help or guidance from seasoned rail researchers and to gain insight or gather experience on tackling a topic or an area of research or using a research resource facility.
- Member Meetings (Online, every two months) – An open forum and an opportunity for members to meet
Outdoor Guided walks
Opportunities to get some fresh air and exercise via a guided walks to visit and explore past railways.

WRRC publications
The Circle has an active publications team working on a range of planned future publications. The Publication Working Group welcomes anyone with an interest in publications & / or engaging in research. Members receive discounts on the Circle’s publications.

Annual Members Open Day and AGM
Each year we open our doors to members and invited guests to meet and show their work from modelling to research work undertaken. Along with a brief AGM for members to help us set out the work and activities of the Circle for the forthcoming year.

All members have access to online copies of the Circle’s quarterly Newsletter, the twice-yearly Welsh Railways Archive and enjoy the full range of other Circle facilities and events.	Full Digital Membership Members have access to the Circle’s Newsletter and the Welsh Railways Archive online ONLY and not by post.
Full Postal Membership Members also receive the Circle’s Newsletter and the Welsh Railways Archive by post.	Partial Digital Membership Members receive the Welsh Railways Archive by post twice each year but *the Newsletter is NOT posted*.

The Circle’s Membership year is between September and August – Renewals are due in August
New members joining between July and August will have a 14-month membership year with subscription renewable the following year.

New members joining between March 1st and June 30th will be charged a reduced subscription as indicated above.

The Welsh Railways Research Circle – On joining

By joining the Circle, members receive not only a regular quarterly Newsletter, but also a copy of the twice-yearly journal, the Welsh Railways Archive. You will be sent instructions on how to gain access to the Circles Online Members Area and to the Online Discussion Forum. The Members Area Member Login of this website contains a guide to the information and documents members can access within the Circle, along with downloadable data sheets and online copies of our Newsletter and WRA Journals, along with downloading the Circle’s guide to rail research resources within the UK

If you submit your email address on joining, you will receive occasional invites and updates from our secretary (We try to keep our email messaging to members at a minimum).

In addition, the WRRC is continuing to develop the research centre and its services to its membership as indicated above but we welcome any assistance and help that members can supply.
