Barry Railway coach on the West Somerset Railway

The West Somerset Railway have just aquired a Barry Railway 6 wheel coach body.
The coach was built in Manchester by the Ashbury Railway Carriage Co. in 1897.
It will be interesting to see what livery it is painted in after its restoration.

A short article has appeared in March 2016 edition of The Railway Magazine concerning Barry Railway carriage No 97. Previously on the West Somerset Railway, the coach is now in the hands of the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway for restoration. It is claimed that its identity is a mystery. The article states that Barry Railway composites were numbered 158-174, with 97 being an anomaly. Yet Mountford's Register of Absorbed Stock shows 97 as being a 6-wheel composite - 1 2nd class, 4 3rd class - bought second hand from the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway. The article has No 97 as being built by Ashbury but I don't have the Lancashire & Yorkshire rolling stock register to confirm the builder of the stock sold to the Barry second-hand.
