Monmouthshire Council and the Magor Action Group for Rail have made an application to the Department for Transport for £7 million to build a new station for Magor and Undy. When the station closed in 1965, the village had a population of 500. It is now approaching 10,000.

Re: Magor & Undy station
This idea has been around for some time. As I understand the issue, there is a traffic case for the station - i.e. it would attract extra business and take traffic off the roads - but trains stopping at stations reduce line capacity. as this line is already busy, my understanding is that Notwork Rail is reluctant to build a station. There are other locations in South Wales where the same argument is used, for instance Fairoak, near Roath Park on the Rhymney line.
