The NLS also has 25 inch maps for Scotland and is planning to include Wales on the available list. Unfortunately this is not likely to start until 2016.

In my view 25 inch OS maps are far more useful to railway historians than the 6 inch. For Wales, the NLS offering, when it becomes available, will be cheaper than the currently available service from http://www.old-maps.co.uk. They charge a monthly fee £9.99 to view maps online plus £14.40 for an A3 digital download, the largest size they offer. NLS currently charges £9.00 for a .jpeg download, size variable, but an A2 .jpeg is about 60MB!
One aspect of these old 25 in maps that remains to be clarified is that the NLS does not necessarily hold a complete set of all the editions of the Welsh maps, whereas Old-Maps does. It will be worth keeping an eye on the progress of the NLS scanning of the English and Welsh maps at http://maps.nls.uk/geo/find/#zoom=8&lat ... &point=0,0
