Can anyone confirm when the Severn Tunnel Car Carrying service ceased? Also does anyone have any paperwork relating to these trains such as tickets, passenger information leaflets, official operating instructions, etc. Anything of interest will help.

Thanks Noel. The recent book "The South Wales Direct Line: History and Working by P D Rendall (Crowood Press) says:
"When the new Severn Road Bridge opened in 1966, car trains became less well used and soon ceased to run."
This implies that the trains did continue for a time after the bridge opened.
So I am still looking for the exact date when the service ceased.

Railway Magazine December 1966 page 720 recorded that the "car ferry" (their term!) service ceased after operation on 6 October 1966 (they do not comment on the curious fact that this date was a Thursday) and that the passenger accommodation was a 1947 Hawksworth slip coach (the last working for such a vehicle - albeit no slipping involved!).
