Station Usage 2013/14 South East Wales

The above figures were released about a month ago and make for interesting reading.

Wales now has five stations with over a million passengers a year:

Cardiff Central, Cardiff Queen Street, Newport, Bridgend and Cardiff Bay.

There are now only 3 stations in this region with under 10,000 passengers a year:

Ynyswen, Maesteg (Ewenny Road) and Gilfach Fargoed.

The six biggest increases in station usage this year are:

Cardiff Bay (+150,000), Bridgend (+123,000), Cardiff Central (+102,000), Pencoed (+72,000), Merthyr Tydfil (+66,000) and Maesteg (+48,000).

The six biggest decreases in station usage this year are:

Cardiff Queen Street (-32,000), Coryton (-24,000), Pontypridd (-15,000), Ystrad Rhondda (-13,710), Penarth (-12,000) and Tonypandy (-9,480).

The seven biggest climbers in the usage list are:

Dingle Road (+11 places), Sarn (+8), Birchgrove (+6 places), Maesteg (+6 places), Pencoed (+6 places), Energlyn & Churchill Park (+5 places) and Merthyr Vale (+5 places).

The six biggest fallers in the usage list are:

Ystrad Rhondda (-9), Penrhiwceiber (-7), Tonypandy (-5), Coryton (-4), Ton Pentre (-4) and Treorchy (-4).

Since last year, there has been a 1,203,114 increase in passengers, a 3.37% increase on last year.
