Indeed. Taken from trains between Ebbw Vale and Newport yesterday - nice to have trip on a normal train using a route that hasn't seen regular passenger services in decades. I needed to go to Newport anyway so thought I'd take the opportunity of using a route I'd never been on before - everything went very smoothly except for the ticketing - I was sold a ticket to Cardiff as that was cheaper than the one to Newport.

The reason for ticketing is that the normal journey to Newport would be via Cardiff, longer so more expensive. Arriva Wales were selling Cardiff tickets as if the journey was a direct one that didn't require a change at Newport.

Normally there would be no space in the busy main line timetable to park the Ebbw Vale train at Platform 4. This was possible during the engineering works by rearranging the timetable. In particular Cardiff to Holyhead trains only ran between Shrewsbury to Holyhead. Passengers had to use the Manchester train for the southern part of that journey.
