Hello,
I've received this enquiry regarding Joseph Tomlinson, is anybody in a position to provide some answers?
I should be grateful if you could please pass this on to anyone who may be able to help.
I am looking into the history of the LB&SCR and the replacement of J C Craven/appointment of William Stroudley in 1870. I believe that the other candidate for the job was Joseph Tomlinson who had recently resigned from the Taff Vale.
1. Did Tomlinson resign under a cloud in any way and is the reason for his disagreement with the Board known?
2. What were Tomlinson's achievements at the Taff Vale? I understand that he was responsible for the 75 class of locos - was this genuinely a standard class? Was he responsible for development of the loco works at Cardiff West Yard?
I would very much appreciate any assistance.
Many thanks,
Simon
