- I do some voluntary work at the STEAM Museum Library & Archive with Ken, and we have a query which we hope you can help answer.
We have pictures of Treforest Halt, and are trying to identify the opening date.
Robertson in "G.W. Halts" states that it was never opened, while a list published by the Data Workshop of Didcot gives the opening date as 01/09/1904, with a closing date of 17/09/1956.
Can you please shed any light on this confusion?

I'm not sure I'm clear on this. On which line is or was Treforest Halt situated?

I could refer you to a very nicely conceived map entitled South Wales Railways Passenger Services 1920 that can be found in the Members section of the Circle website http://www.wrrc.org.uk/members/index.phpRhobat Bryn wrote:I'm not sure I'm clear on this. Actually I'm sure that Noel is right; it is the ex-PC&N/ADR halt that's being referred to.

Noel - thanks for your detailed reply, which I've passed on to the enquirer. Off-line WRA Editor Tony Miller came up with extensive details of the ADR's Treforest Halt, so thanks to him too.

Re: Treforest Halt - Opening date
The Treforest Halt which closed on 17 Sept 1956 (with stations to Machen) was on the ADR (PC&N) line. In Tony Cooke's atlas is shewn the site of a Treforest Halt on the Cardiff Rly line at 9m 21ch just short of the "forbidden junction" with the TVR. He says that it (the halt) was never opened. At 8m 54ch on the same line was Rhydyfelin Halt which was the terminus of the Railmotor Service which was withdrawn on 20 July 1931 (cut back to Coryton).
According to James Page, Forgotten Rlys the service between PC&N Jn and Penrhos Jn commenced on 28 December 1887, and the service between Heath Halt Low Level and Rhydyfelin Halt commenced on 1 March 1911. Jeff Stone.
