McKenzie & Holland disc signals

In the Model Railway Journal number 275 was a photo of a superb model of a McKenzie & Holland signal built by Laurence Boul. One thing that caught my eye was that there were two disc signals on the post, one either side, and that they were constructed to rotate in opposite directions. As I am considering building a model that would incorporate such signals I contacted Laurence for further details and he said that the signals he knew were constructed this way. Knowing that detailed signalling practice could vary from company to company, I wondered if anyone had information on what was the practice in South Wales - I've not seen any photos that are sufficiently clear to establish what was the norm.

I also found this one of Radyr.
The signals of the right look like little rotating arms, and the ones by the footbridge look like discs, just to make it more complicated.
