Just read Geraint Roberts book - Aberystwyth to Carmarthen, Pub Lightmoor.

Page 82 - Coaching Stock at Aberystwyth.
The author comments about carriage stock in the goods sidings as unusual and picks out the first on the left, which I think is actually LNWR - and possibly the third one in the row behind.
No date is given - pre-grouping - but has anyone seen this before or have any more details? There are LNWR through carriages to the Manchester/Liverpool area in LNWR timetables, but the author indicates these carriages are in the wrong place, and there are two sets in view - some special event?

Are you seeing several coaches or just a few? In the 1930s there were SO between Aberystwyth and Manchester. There were two rakes one GWR the other LMS which made only one journey returning the next Saturday. Thus they sat carriage sidings for a week. Ivor Higgin photographed several of these SO workings to and from Liverpool and Manchester which had ex LNWR stock in them.

I appreciate this not the Carmarthen line. I shall be purchasing my copy in September.

I'm no expert on carriages but the coach you suggest is LNWR looks more like a GWR celebratory coach. There also seems to be one at coach 4 on the train on the right.

Not sure what a GWR celebratory coach is? Did you mean clerestory?

The ones I'm referring too are the one nearest the camera on the left - roof line starts next to the 82 page number and the third one in the row immediately behind this one. They have the LNWR torpedo vents - triangular shape - and squared window mouldings. B&W photos of CAmbrian stock can appear similar, but have rounded window mouldings and I've never seen one with the torpedo vents.

I'd also agree that coach 4 in the arriving train does look different - lighter upper panels - than the adjoining stock.

Suggest you look at the 1923 diagram on pages 218 and 219 of C C Green’s The Coast Lines of the Cambrian Railways Volume 1. The coaches to the left look as though they are being stored in the sidings near the cattle pens. It is difficult to know whether this was normal or not. I suggest this is a summer photograph by the trees and the stored coaches could be awaiting platform space for later departure, this being a summer Saturday. Much supposition on my part but I as mentioned in an earlier post carriages were stored for a week both at Aberystwyth and Manchester, one set LMS the other GWR in the 1930s.
