Thank you for my latest Newsletter which I found in the postbox about an hour ago - I haven't had time to read it yet but on flicking through I spotted something.
The last paragraph on page 33 queries what Lifford refers to. I suggest it is a railway location. Less than a mile south of the Cadbury factory at Bournville is a triangular railway junction, the eastern side of which passes over Lifford Lane, Birmingham. Although I live only about 20 minutes from there I have no idea what was there in terms of a railway office etc.
You are right. Lifford does refer to the area of Cotteridge. Lifford is very interesting in railway terms. At various times there were railway stations in Lifford. For more details see Wikipedia. I have written a reply to the Newsletter Editor about Lifford. There was a branch line alongside the canal. If you travel on the train from Bournville towards Kings Norton, the railway curves away from the canal and where this happens there was a branch line that followed the canal. This was the Lifford branch.
