RTR Cambrian gunpowder van

Post by Talerddig »

Rapido Trains have announced that they are planning to introduce a ready to run 4mm model of the GWR Iron Mink van, in numerous variations and liveries; one of which will be as Cambrian GPV no 139.

Details at https://rapidotrains.co.uk/gwr-iron-mink/

From what can be seen in the photos of the pre-production sample models, there are a couple of small differences compared to the Cambrian ones - inevitably, the GWR underframe is being used, with GWR axleboxes and side stanchions that fold round the underframe channel section; but the axleboxes at least are readily rectifiable by those who may wish to do so. One the other hand, all credit to Rapido for being willing to produce them.

Rapido seem to operate a business model where they take orders directly from customers (private or trade) up to a certain date, then close their order book and produce the number needed to meet those orders (rather than producing so many and then hoping they sell); so if anyone is tempted, the order book closes at the end of May. May be worth placing an order either via your local model shop (Rapido's website lists numerous retailers - see https://rapidotrains.co.uk/official-retailers/ ) or directly with them.
