Barry Railway 1/2 composite coach

The trustees of the group responsible for the ongoing restoration of former Barry Railway coach No 163 are seeking a new location for the vehicle. Based at Hampton Loade on the Severn Valley Railway, the Ashbury-built 1st-2nd composite has been undergoing restoration since 1992 when it a "rescued" from a field at Clent, Worcestershire. An announcement by the Trustees refers to a lack of progress due to the Covid pandemic and the lack of indoor facilities in which to store the vehIcle. In a statement, the Trustees favour an alternative nearby site or transferring the coach to a new owner with similar aims regarding the coach's future. Although built as a six-wheeler, the carriage is currently mounted on a four wheel chassis.

Further to the above - the Trust has announced the coach is to be transferred from Hampton Loade on the Severn Valley Railway to the Gwili Railway.

Good news. The Gwili is emerging as the National Welsh Railway Heritage Centre, given its ownership of the Taff Vale O1 tank as well.
