The rebuilding of this line has taken a step closer to completion with the announcement that the Welsh Government has allocated £300,000 for the funding of a full feasibility study of the reopening of the line.

That was dealt with in the scoping study. The track would have to be realigned to the east with a new tunnel to get to Aberystwyth. It's one of the few pieces of new engineering required as most of the trackbed is intact.

Re: Aberystwyth to Carmarthen - Tregaron goods depot

Post by RichardMaund »

When the closure of the freight depots at Strata Florida, Tregaron and Pont Llanio (except for the milk at the latter) was advised in the General Instructions Circular A2/73 of 17 Feb 1964 (to be effective from 16 March 1964) the following note appeared against Tregaron: "will remain for warehouse traffic of existing tenants only". Such traffic in wagon loads was to be labelled to Lampeter, but it wasn't made entirely clear whether the segment from Lampeter to Tregaron would then be made by train or by road. I suspect it was by road, but anyone know for sure?
