Class 116 DMU markings

Post by RobMeades »

I will shortly have to add correct markings to my Class 116, Rhymney Valley Line, all-BR-blue livery 1/32 scale DMU model and I want to get it right. My problem is that I can find very few pictures of Rhymney Valleys line DMUs of this livery. So I need help from the experts here. Can anyone advise me on the correctness of my assessments below and, also, what might be some valid numbers to apply to my model?

From what I can see from railcar.co.uk, there are markings in three places on each side of each coach and, possibly, another on the front. They are:

- Something written on the drivers door that I can't make out: possibly "private" or similar?
- A large BR logo on the panel behind that.
- A five digit number either on the panel next to that or at the rear on the brake van section, depending on which side you look at.
- In some cases a Cxxx number on the cab front.

Below are links to the railcar.co.uk pictures I base this assessment on plus a link to a picture of the bodies of my model so that you can see exactly my livery.

Thanks for the clear information Noel. That link is to a REALLY long thread. I will try to make the time to read it tonight and hope that Chris F. comes by, or find a way to @ him on here.

In case it's useful to others, the markings I ended up with can be found here:
