Re: Rail Franchising in Wales
There are currently four through platforms at Cardiff Queen Street, two are southbound with Platform 4 given over to Penarth and City Line Services and Platform 3 used by Barry and Vale of Glamorgan services. At Cardiff Central, there are three. Platform 8 is for Barry, Penarth and Vale of Glamorgan services whereas Platform 7 is for the City Line to Radyr and terminating services from Treherbert. The difficulty is Platform 6 which caters for all northbound traffic to all destinations. This could be quite a squeeze. Interestingly, Platform 4 is known as the Barry Relief so whether there are plans to requisition this platform for Valley services in the future remains to be seen. However there are serious calls for Cardiff Central to be remodelled as it can no longer cater for modern day passenger demand.
