Brake pull rods on Rhymney classes M and R

I think there was just one central pull rod with compensators on each connection to a cross-rod. This picture is the clearest I have; the compensator can be seen in front of the rear driven axle. The cross shaft that transferred the action from the vertical is on the frames just in front of the cab steps (four big rivets on the frames).

Now for my question about the M class. During the early rebuilds did the tanks get moved outwards? Compare this photo of RR 106 with one on page 30 of the RR Drawings book.

Notice how there is beading along the entire length of the top of the tank in this photo but the "as-built" photo in the book and my photo of 108 above the beading goes along the tank and then around the cab. Also the cab door hand rails have been moved. In all GWR period photos I can distinguish that the tanks are about 2" out from the cab sides and that the footplate is extended outward around the tank.

I've just found this photo of an ex B&M lococ that was based upon the Rhymney R class pretending to be a 4-0-2T which nicely shows some of the brake gear.
