I doubt many P4 /EM modellers would want anything but an etch chassis.

I'm not so sure about that. Certainly metal construction [be it etched, milled or scratchbuilt] is the norm for scratch- and kit-built locos but that could be because it's all that has traditionally been available to us. Many modellers in both P4 and EM are happy to simply re-wheel Bachmann or Hornby chassis, perhaps with false frames in plasticard to pack out the frames to close to the correct width. The reaction to Knuckle's range of 3d printed locos and chassis in the Scalefour forum has been positive too. I discussed the matter with a fellow P4 modeller (Circle member and potential purchaser of a P4 RR loco) at my club and he had no inherent objection to a printed chassis too.

Another advantage of 3d printing that has occurred to me is the ease of producing a split-frame chassis

But my biggest request would be to produce B&M variants for both the 4’7” and 5’ locos. And I’d be happy to help in that direction.

That can be on the books. Reading the RCTS book it doesn't sound too difficult.

Yes, from the R came the 4’6” wheel-diameter 36 class; the 5’ wheel-diameter 45 class from the P.

Here are the differences I’ve spotted between B&M 36 class and your R class drawing

1. 36 class has round-top firebox
2. Safety valves
3. Forward and rear spectacles are round on B&MR locos
4. Sandboxes (with variations amongst B&M locos too, some above the footplate, others below, 43 with below footplate had a toolbox on the RHS in that location).
5. Balance pipe between water tanks (circular section on B&M locos)
6. Amongst B&Ms locos there are differences between the frames on the 36-39 series and 40-43 series.
7. Step on tank fronts on B&M locos
8. No outwards curve towards the bottom of the front steps on B&MR locos
9. No top feed on B&MR locos
10. Springs on leading axle are under-hung on B&MR locos

I eagerly await seeing the P drawing.

I see that kits for a 4mm RR Class M and an OO chassis have appeared on Shapeways from Penrhos Models (see https://www.shapeways.com/search?q=rhymney&type=. I imagine that there's a connection!

There is also a kit and bits for a RR/Cardiff covered wagon that is of interest.
