From another railway related website I have been pointed towards " http://raildar.co.uk " apparently shorthand for Rail Radar, within this package are two facilities to follow the 'Real Time' movement of both passenger and freight trains across the UK:
- Real Time Map against either a Google Map or a Google Satellite background, with a zoom in/out facility. There are numerous moving and clickable icons representing real time trains, click the icon and up pops details of the train in question.
- Junction Maps a 'Line Drawing' map of the UK rail network showing far smaller areas of real estate, but showing considerable detail of the track bed layout within that area.
The interesting feature is that the user can pre-set the area brought to screen, for example the address http://raildar.co.uk/map/PTD will bring to screen the area in the vicinity of Pontarddulais, whereas the address http://raildar.co.uk/map/BGN brings to screen the area around Bridgend. As above there is a zoom in/ out facility, as well as the usual sideways shift. The default setting is Milton Keynes.
There is a search facility to search for junctions at will!, all with icons, red for freight and black and/or green for passenger trains. In some places even the changing colours of the signals are displayed
