Newport MRS - NAGNAG Open Day 7th March 2015

Newport MRS in association with NAGNAG (the Newport and Gwent Neighbourhood Area Group of the Scalefour Society) are holding our second* biennial open day on Saturday 7th March 2015 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Shaftesbury Community Centre in Evans Street, Newport, NP20 5LD

The open day isn’t meant to be an exhibition rather an opportunity to chat with fellow modellers and share a few experiences. The layouts won’t be operating as they would at a conventional exhibition giving visitors and club members alike a chance to swap tips and thoughts. Hopefully visitors will have the opportunity to run one or two of their locos (P4 or 31.5 mm O gauge) too.

The emphasis will be on Scalefour, with Steffan Lewis’s Maindee East (http://www.scalefour.org/layouts/exhibmaindee.html), Mike Edmunds’ Cwm Du (http://www.cardiffmodelrail.org.uk/Cwm%20Du.htm), the micro-layouts created for the NMRS ‘P4 in A4’ initiative* and NMRS’s work-in-progress Little Mill Junction (with working fiddle yard but the remaining boards in bare-board state). 7mm will be represented with the club’s O gauge BR(SR) layout, Frecclesham.

Additionally Ian Penberth of PenBits Model Railways (http://www.penbits.co.uk)and Justin Newitt of Rumney Models (http://www.rumneymodels.co.uk) with be present with some of their wares and the Welsh Railways Research Circle (http://www.wrrc.org.uk) will be in attendance.

Admission will be free (but our Treasurer has never been known to turn down a donation). Light refreshments will be available during the day.

Due to unforeseen circumstances Maindee East will not be at this year’s Open Day.
Instead, and a short notice, Bernie Baker has agreed to bring Allt-y-Graban Road (http://www.scalefour.org/shows/S4SW2011 ... raban.html).
This being an Open Day rather than an exhibition Bernie will be instigating an Open Access Operator policy so if you’d like to run your (DCC, P4) locos or stock on the layout bring them along.

As an added attraction (yes! there's even more!) 4965 Rood Ashton Hall will be working through Newport on the same day, at 11:00 in the down direction and stopping in Newport from 15:30 to 15:50 just after the Open Day closes.
