Barry Station

Work has started on the new platform at the above station. It is to the south of the station, nearest the site of the engine side. Presently, point wires run parallel to the platform edge. The solution appears to be that the platform will be built over these wires given the location of the new track. I'm not sure whether this will be a terminus, as at Caerphilly, or whether it will be possible to run on to Barry Island as it used to in former Barry Railway days.

Having had a brief conversation with the workmen on site, there are two new lines being built, the first is the line for platform 3 which will be a terminus and not join the Barry Island line as I had previously thought, even though it runs beyond the platform end. The other line which will be parallel to it and to the south appears to be a storage siding. Given that the purpose of the new platform is to provide extra capacity during the rush hour, it would make sense to have a siding where the extra unit or units could be kept ready for duty.
