Spotted today in an Antiques shop in Hay on Wye. Apologies for the quality of the image taken with my phone through the shop window.

I didn't get the chance to examine it closely but I'm pretty sure it's genuine. It carries a price tag of £750 but no doubt the shop owner would be open to offers if anyone is interested. I was, but common sense (drat it) prevailed; hard to justify an impulse purchase at that price despite its rarity. It is also a really big lump of cast iron still attached to a very hefty post!

The shop in question is "The Keeper's Pocket", The Pavement, Hay on Wye. The owner is Rob Derrick and his mobile number is 07974 754339. I should say that I have no connection, whatsoever with this retailer.

If anyone is tempted enough to part with some money, I'd love a decent photo for the Newsletter.

Just as a matter of interest a similar notice was sold last year at auction. See the following link:

This would seem to confirm that the notice you have seen is the genuine article. I have no idea what it fetched but no doubt the auctioneer would tell you if you asked.
The price tag of £750 in the shop does seem a bit strong.

The auction catalogue for the November 2014 auction states that it sold for £150

Don't forget that is effectively a wholesale price to which you need to add buyers premium (typically 20%) and VAT on the premium which brings the total to £186. Most antique retailers would work on at least a 3x mark up which would bring the retail price to around £560.
