Modern Railways has reported in its December issue that the new entrance to the station is due to open on Sunday 30th November and that platform 1, the new bay platform for the Cardiff Bay shuttle, and the new Platform 5, Taff Vale trains, will come into use on Sunday 14th December. This will mean that City Line trains to Radyr and trains to Penarth will depart from platform 2, platform 3 will be for trains to Barry and the Vale of Glamorgan line, and platform 4 will be the northbound platform for Rhymney and Coryton.

The new platform 8 at Cardiff Central, although due for completion in summer 2015, will not come into use until Christmas 2016 due to cables having to be relocated.

Jeremy Segrott wrote to me with the following, which may be of interest to members,
  • I was at Cardiff Queen St. station this morning to photograph the first trains to use the new platforms (1 and 5) and a member of your society was there to record the first train at each platform.

I mentioned that I would be very happy to share any photographs, but did not get the chance to share my contact details. All my photos are at https://www.flickr.com/photos/126337928 ... 338078499/ and I would be very happy for you to use them, as long as they are credited to me.

I actually spoke to Jeremy who was there with his son. My photos of the first train are slightly out of focus (my camera was playing up at the time). I would upload them onto this post if I knew how. Does anyone know if out of focus photographs can be made sharper by some wonderful software somewhere?
