These suggestions have been around for a very long time witness Rover Russet Brown - a colour beloved of Austin Allegro owners - and BMC Tan. Good luck finding a tin of those in Halfords!

Maybe not on the shelf but one can get colour matches made up to spec at auto factors.

Thinking about this again if it was possible to identify the British Standard number for these colours it might be possible to match them with current colour ranges. Perhaps an option easier than getting batches made up.

I think that the problem is that the British Standards (BS 381C, BS4800 & BS5252) cover certain standard colours (although I understand that BR colours came from the BS381 range), not necessarily all colours. However, there may be some mileage in finding and recording the RGB number for any desired colour, but then we are still in the 'getting paint mixed' area.

BTW I believe the the origin of the list I posted earlier was the RAF Kinloss MRC and an updated list can be found on their website http://www.rafkinlossmrc.co.uk/info.html. Sadly, though, the good men of Kinloss do not interest themselves greatly in matters Welsh.

Perish the thought that the Circle's sphere of interest might end in 1922! :)
