RCTS Locomotives of the GWR, Part 10 has an image of B&MR 2-4-0 Usk, which it credits Locomotive Magazine. Does anyone know of a better quality copy of this image please?

Here is a more 'desirable' picture of USK. I do not know who has the copyright so for that I apologise.

I wonder how long the wooden brake blocks would have lasted going down to its namesake river…

Probably better than following the Caerfanell! Maybe part of the reason why she spent most of he life on the banks of Rhymney.

I have copies of Volumes 1 through to 29 in pdf format.
I also used http://www.borht.org.uk/locomagkey.htm which is a good index albeit from Volume 2 through to it being amalgamated with Trains Illustrated in 1959.
When I have time, I will look through Volume 1 to see if it is there.

Well the nice guys over in the Great Eastern Society tracked it down to Volume 37 of 1931 of the Locomotive Magazine. This is how it looked on the printed page.
Now I wonder if someone somewhere has a print of it (that does sound ungrateful I know)

Reading the Locomotives of the GWR Part 10, it states that B&M 21 USK was rebuilt in 1895 to a 2-4-0 side tank.
I wonder if the attached photo is of the same locomotive as a side tank.

It's easy to get confused about "Usk" & 21! I extracted the following from the RCTS book - to avoid confusion I'll refer to the locos by letters.

A. Usk, No 15: built 1862 sold 1871 - Manning Wardle 0-6-0ST (also known as Little Usk).
B. Usk, No. 9 : built 1865, Sharp Stewart 2-4-0 used on Hereford Hay & Brecon Railway and later between Newport and Rhymney
renumbered to 21 in 1888
converted to side tank in 1895
withdrawn 1904
C. No 9: 2-4-0T built 1888 by Stephenson
D. No 21: 2-4-0T built 1904 by Stephenson (Pembrokelad's post)

I've never seen an illustration of B as a tank engine, it was significantly smaller than C and D. Perhaps Rod will have a go at building a second model to show it in this guise...
