Dowlais Junction (Taff Vale Railway)

A Taff Vale directors' minute of 4 Feb 1853 stated: “Resolved that Dowlais Jcn. station be made a ticket station.”

What function would that indicate?

Presumably, not a halt.

It was the interchange/junction with the incline to Dowlais so not a halt - and it was already in use. So what did "upgrading" (presumably?) it to a "ticket station" (as opposed to "ticket platform" which would have been merely for collecting tickets - and they already had one for Merthyr) or a plain "station" signify?

If a ticket platform is one where tickets are collected only, would a ticket station be one where tickets were also issued?

And was Dowlais Junction a workman's platform?
