WRRC Data Sheet 2 - Kit-bashing for Welsh Wagons

I am currently updating this data sheet, which is largely based on notes that Dave Howell compiled and describes conversion of commercial kits of wagons intended for other railways that can be used or modified to represent prototypes of Welsh railways’ wagons. (Kits that are intended to model Welsh prototypes are covered on a separate data sheet.)

The current version, updated this week, is available in the members’ section of the Circle website here: http://www.wrrc.org.uk/members/index.php

Two appeals:
  • I have not been able to unearth copies of the diagrams that accompanied the original datasheet, if you have copies could you let me have a copy so that I can reinstate them please?

This document will inevitably be subject to change as research progresses and new kits become available so please make any comments or suggestions for improvements.
In either case I can be contacted at secretary@wrrc.org.uk.

I think have copies - assuming they are what you're referring to - I'll look them up and e-mail what I have to you. :D

It turns out that Menelaus only had pages 1 and 3 so the appeal still stands for page 2. Anybody else with a copy out there?

I've scanned my copy but the Forum does not allow attaching pdfs so I'll email it to the secretary.

OK, thanks to Rob and Andrew for their help with the diagrams.

Now for the supplementary question - does anybody have any pictures of models produced by the methods suggested in Data Sheet 2 please?

Barry Railway:

For the 4 plank open conversion in 4mm it can also be converted from the Coopercraft kit. Both conversions need the axleboxes changed as well as brakegear. Photo on my website.

Diagram 57 cattle wagon can also be made from the Coopercraft kit with the axleboxes and brake gear changed. I'm not sure if the roof radius is correct as it's not right for the GWR version. http://emardee.org.uk/ sell replacement ends for the GWR cattle wagon.

Diagram 60 10ton timber set can be made from the ABS GWR Mite Twin

The RR 4 plank loco coal wagon on page 104 of RR Drawings can be converted from a Slaters PO wagon.

The RR 5 plank open on page 112 is GWR built and can be built from an ABS O18 kit:

is also a GWR build and can be built from either the Coopercraft kit with the ends conversion kit or the ABS kit. Running numbers here: http://penrhos.me.uk/RRVans.shtml

TVR

is a cross between a Slaters PO wagon kit and Coopercraft GWR wagon chassis with ABS brakegear. In TVR days it would have not had the GWR axlesboxes, a different metal chassis kit might be a better start point.

Thank you for these suggestions, much appreciated. I'll incorporate them into the next revision of Data sheet 2.

Here's another picture, taken on Ynysbwl when it was at the Newcastle show last years:

There are many other nice items on Ynysbwl that might be kit bashed.
