Barry locos 32, 63, 76 & 112

Photos of these 3 locos in the Barry Drawings book and the work’s photo 63 all show what looks like an outside steam pipe on the right hand side. But obviously it can’t be as they’re inside cylinders. On 32 & 76 it looks like a cover formed from sheet steel, but on 112 it looks like a round pipe.
Any ideas what it is and how long it was on them?
