Old Ordnance Survey Map - Hawarden 1909 (Flintshire Sheet 14.03)
Another reprint of an old Ordnance Survey map from Alan Godrey Maps covering the town of Hawarden in Flintshire, famous for its links with William Ewart Gladsone, the four times UK Prime Minister. The railway interest is Hawarden station on the Great Central Railway which runs down the left-hand side of the map. This started life as the Wrexham, Mold and Connah’s Quay Railway which was taken over by the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire before being acquired by the GCR. Another railway, the Aston Hall Colliery Railway just creeps onto the top left corner of the map.
As usual there is an extensive historical essay on the area on the reverse of the main together with another OS map of Hawarden in 1871 to a scale of six inches to the mile.
