Brecon & Merthyr Line film?

Post by Wagonworks_andy »

Does any member know of a film made of the Brecon & Merthyr line? My contact wishes to remain anonymous at the moment but has been told that a person in the Exeter area made a detailed film of such a journey. My contact is aware of the commercially produced DVDs & You Tube clips etc.

Further, has any member film of Brunel’s Merthyr Tydfil railway station please?

Any information to Brian Dotson, e-mail: brian@dotson.fsnet.co.uk

This entry is just to put my frustration of very many years into words. A friend of mine took very detailed slides of stations, signal boxes, bridges etc and any other items of note, on the B&M from Newport to Brecon, before and after its closure. He was very meticulous since he also recorded the deterioration of parts of the line over the years after closure. The last time that I saw his presentation was during the late 1970's. Unfortunately, soon after, he died in a motor accident. His brother became custodian of his collection but despite a number of requests for a loan of same to copy it, he was reluctant to agree and my requests fell on deaf years. I should imagine that his brother has long passed on and the collection may be gathering dust somewhere or has long since been despatched to the dump.

It would have provided much valuable information and would have been a treasure in WRRC archives. This situation, no doubt, has been repeated on numerous occasions and it still touches a nerve. Should I have been more persistent??

Ah well, such is life.
