Hattons Project Genesis

Hattons have announced a project to produce 4 and 6-wheel coaches which ran during the independent era. The link below will take you to their website where they explain more:

They seem to be toys, not models.

Hmm, interesting. No, they're NOT close models of, say, B&M coaches which I would be interested in but in general dimensions they are not bad.
Compared to the original B&M 4 wheel stock the wheelbase is a bit too long, the panels above the windows too shallow and, most importantly for their general appearance, they are flat-sided, not bow-sided (making the width too small).

Having said all that, if I had an exhibition two weeks away and no accurate passenger stock available, then I might be very tempted to say "Needs must when the devil drives" and see what a bit of repainting could do.

I can foresee lots of articles titled: " How to convert a Hatton's genesis project coach into an original ... carriage."

That's a good comparison, Noel.

I just hope that at least one of the four-wheelers and one of the six-wheelers are actually models of something, be they GER or LBSC or whatever, rather than something generic.

You may be right Rod, but the indications from the publicity were that generic models were exactly what will be on offer. More details will no doubt emerge as the models progress through the production process. The only things that are not generic are the liveries on offer, the vast majority of them being English independent companies of course.

To correct a point in my earlier post. I've now found the end-view drawings and the Hattons vehicles are NOT flat-sided. They have a "normal" curved or bow-sided cross-section.
Compared to B&M 4-wheel stock they come out as 1.6 mm too narrow.

I like the "Triang clerestory" analogy, it sums it up well.
