WRRC members within reach of Manchester may be interested in the following meeting organised by the Railway & Canal Historical Society (North West Group) to be held on Saturday, 9th April 2016 at the Friends’ Meeting House, 6 Mount Street, Manchester, M2 5NS commencing at 2pm.

The LMS School of Transport, Derby – An Illustrated Talk by Graham Wild
Graham tells the fascinating story of the school. The talk starts with the reason for the building and its location, moving on through a description of the building to the successful fight to save it and subsequent developments with what is now a listed building.

As this meeting is expected to be popular, it would be appreciated if anyone who is not a regular attender at R & CHS (North West Group) Indoor Meetings could let Roger Brice (North West Group Secretary) know of their intention to attend. This would not be considered to be a binding agreement to attend but having a idea of likely numbers will help to arrange seating for all. Enquiries about the meeting should be made to the North West Group Secretary, Roger Brice on 01625 533959 or 07702 303242 or email: rogerbrice@microton.net. Up to date information can be found under Local Groups on the society’s website http://www.rchs.org.uk.
Mount Street connects Peter Street with Albert Square and is immediately to the rear of the Central Library adjacent to the Town Hall. Normally the nearest Metrolink tram stop is at St. Peter’s Square in front of the main entrance to Central Library. However, please note that this stop has been closed until late Summer 2016. During this period the nearest stops are at Piccadilly Gardens, Market Street and Deansgate - Castlefield. Manchester (Oxford Road) and Deansgate railway stations are about five minutes walk away. The nearest car park is in Watson Street.
A voluntary contribution of £2.50 is requested from R&CHS members and £3.50 from visitors to help to defray the meeting expenses.
