Platform 5 Cardiff General

Does anyone know which trains used the westward facing bay platform 5 at Cardiff General station and when it was taken out of commission?

As far as I know, the bay was taken o.o.u during the resignalling c.1964/5.

It was used by Porthcawl trains certainly, but perhaps others.

I also recall that locos from Canton sheds, coming up to take over westbound trains, would move to the west end of Platform 4, go forward into the siding at the west end of Platform 5 and, when the train engine had come off, reverse onto Platform 3 to take over the train.

Many happy days spotting at Cardiff, but usually the east end of 1/2 was favourite.... more trolleys to sit on and tidy up during quiet moments!!!!!

Many thanks for the insight, Dragonman. This is the kind of information that you rarely find in publications. Very valuable.
