Llandovery 150 celebrations.

Llandovery 150 celebrations on Sunday July 1st, 10:00 - 16:00 at the station.

Llandovery station

The final order is yet to be agreed but there will be:-

  • A passenger carrying track with Cardiff Model Engineering Society, and we have an outside tap so they have promised steam power!
  • A marquee with local artists displaying their best and hopefully some railway subjects.
  • The local school choir and a male voice choir, which I understand used to be largely railwaymen but I don't know the current composition.
  • In the station cafĂ© and adjacent ground floor room will be three N gauge layouts, one vintage Hornby-Dublo three rail layout, a small 00 layout and a G scale US themed layout.
  • Nigel Bird of Tregarron Books, a railway specialist, will have a stall.
  • Llandovery MRC will have some old books, videos and DVDs, and there will be a history board with photos and notes on the railway history of the town.
  • Teas, coffee(the best in Llandovery!) and cakes will be on sale all day.
  • Paul Atterbury of the Antiques Roadshow will be talking on and valuing railwayana.

  • A steam hauled special will be stopping for about an hour but on current timings it is running rather late - in fact about a week late! We await confirmation whether it is Saturday 7th or Sunday 8th but I will update you on this.
On the 1st, parking will be at a premium so advice is to park in the centre of town; the station is about a ten minute stroll.
Better still, come by train! Booking is cheap in advance through Kelsham Hannah at Llandrindod Wells station. There's no website but they are on 01597 822053.
